Three Days in Vienna

Three days makes room for the things that need arranging: a palace interior, the Lipizzaners, or a proper evening at the opera.

Days one and two

Day three — the thing you book

Pick one and build the day around its slot:

  • Schönbrunn’s interior — timed entry, two circuits, and slots that sell out in summer.
  • The Spanish Riding School — and note the three tiers. Morning exercise is a fraction of a performance and needs far less notice. ⚠️ The horses go to summer pasture, so check they are in Vienna at all.
  • A seat rather than a standing place, if the programme suits.

The rest of day three

The Prater — not the funfair but the Hauptallee, the chestnut avenue running kilometres through the park. Or the Zentralfriedhof on tram 71: the musicians’ graves, and older sections that are closer to a nature reserve than a cemetery.

Or the Hundertwasserhaus and the Danube Canal, which is a different Vienna entirely.

Fitting it together

Work backwards from the booked slot, keep Sunday for palaces and parks, and put anything you want to buy on a day that is not Sunday.
