This policy describes what happens to data when you read accessvienna.com. It is written from what the site actually does, checked against the pages themselves on 3 September 2026 — not from a template.
The short version: we have no accounts, no mailing list, no contact form and no comments. We ask you for nothing and we store nothing about you ourselves. What data is collected is collected by three third parties — our host, Cloudflare, and Google’s advertising system — and the sections below say exactly what each one gets.
What we do not do
- There are no user accounts and no login for readers.
- There is no newsletter and no mailing list. We have never collected an email address.
- There are no contact or subscription forms anywhere on the site.
- Comments are closed site-wide, so no name, email or IP is captured that way.
- We run no analytics product — no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no session recording, no heatmaps. We genuinely do not know who you are or which pages you read.
- We do not sell, rent or share data, because we do not hold any to sell.
Server and security logs
The site is hosted on a private server and sits behind Cloudflare, which handles DNS, TLS and protection against attacks. As with any website, requests are logged: your IP address, browser user-agent, the page requested and the time. These logs exist for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults. They are not used to profile readers and are not combined with anything else.
Cloudflare also collects performance measurements from the browser (page load timings) through its own endpoint on this domain. This is aggregate speed data about pages, not a profile of you. Cloudflare’s own privacy terms govern what it does with data it processes on our behalf.
Advertising — the part that actually involves you
This site carries advertising from Google AdSense, under the publisher ID
ca-pub-1421094021464179. This is the only advertising system on the site and it is how
the site is paid for.
Google and its partners use cookies and similar device identifiers to serve and measure ads. Depending on your location and your choices, ads may be personalised — selected using information about your prior browsing — or non-personalised, selected using only the page’s content and rough location. Google, not us, decides which you receive and holds the data involved. We never see it.

- You can review and turn off ad personalisation for your Google account at myadcenter.google.com.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising from many vendors at once at optout.aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
Content we load from other people’s servers
Two things on this site are fetched by your browser from somewhere other than us, which means those servers receive your IP address and user-agent as a normal part of delivering the file:
- Photographs from Wikimedia Commons. Most images on the homepage and the section pages are served directly from Wikimedia’s servers, which is also how we keep their licensing and attribution intact.
- A typeface from Google Fonts. The site’s typeface is loaded from Google’s font service.
Neither is used to track you by us, and neither places advertising cookies. We name them because your browser does contact them, and a privacy policy that pretended otherwise would be wrong.
Affiliate links
Some articles may link to services such as ticketing or luggage storage through affiliate programmes, which pay us a commission if you buy. Where that is the case the link is marked as sponsored and disclosed in the article itself. Following such a link takes you to the merchant, who may set their own cookies under their own privacy policy. We are not paid for editorial coverage, and an affiliate relationship never decides what we recommend or how we rank anything.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, the UK or another region with similar law, you have rights of access, correction, erasure and objection over personal data held about you. In practice, requests about this site divide into two:
- Advertising data is held by Google, not by us. The links above are the fastest and most complete route to see and change it.
- Server and security logs are the only data our side of the line. We can look for and delete entries if you can identify them, though logs are short-lived and are not indexed by person.
You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
How to make a request — and what this address is not for
Access Vienna is a self-service site. There is no support desk, no enquiries address and no correspondence: we publish articles and that is the whole service. We do not answer questions about Vienna, we cannot check your particular situation, and we do not take requests for coverage, links, guest posts or advertising.
For the one thing that legally requires a route to us — a request about your own data under the GDPR or a similar law — write to privacy [at] accessvienna.com. That mailbox is read for data-protection requests only, and anything else sent to it is deleted unread.
Before writing, note that the two fastest routes are not us at all:
- Advertising data is held by Google, not by us, and the settings linked above change it directly and immediately. We cannot see or alter it on your behalf.
- Cookies can be cleared or blocked in your own browser at any time, for this site and every other, which takes effect straight away.
Children
This site is written for adults planning a visit to, or a life in, Vienna. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes to this policy
If what the site does changes — a form, a newsletter, an analytics tool — this page changes first, and the date below changes with it. We date it rather than saying “last updated recently”, which tells you nothing.
