A week lets you add a second capital, and Vienna is closer to three of them than most cities are to their own second city.

Days one to five

Days six and seven — a second city

Overnights rather than day trips, with the exception of Bratislava, which genuinely works as a day.

⚠️ These are published approximate times and services change with the timetable. Check with the operator when you book. On the Vienna–Salzburg route WESTbahn competes with ÖBB and is often cheaper; on Vienna–Prague, RegioJet does the same. Neither always appears in the other’s search results, so compare rather than assume.

Bratislava is the easy one — an hour each way, so it needs no overnight at all. Budapest and Prague both have their own site in this portfolio: Access Budapest and Access Prague.

Or stay put

A week is also enough to stop sightseeing: the outer districts, a Heuriger evening, the Zentralfriedhof at leisure, and the coffee houses used as living rooms rather than photographed. Several visitors find that the better week.
